Cheadle Hulme

About

Cheadle Hulme u3a began In September 2001,. The first newsletter was issued early in 2002 and, within a year, membership had grown to around 200. In October 2021 we celebrated our 20th anniversary, and are still going strong.

At the core of our U3A activities is the monthly members’ meeting, which is usually held at Ladybridge Park Residents Club (link to map or details) on the first Thursday of each month (except August) commencing at 2pm and serves as valuable social function in bringing all the Groups together

The monthly meeting provides an opportunity for the Committee and Group Leaders to make announcements and pass on information to members. The monthly meeting has also brought us guest speakers on a wide range of interesting subjects and includes refreshments. The cost to attend the monthly meeting is £3.

To cover the cost of running our u3a we have set our annual charge for 2025 at £14 per person for the whole year, which is no increase on the last three years. If you join from September then the cost is reduced to £10 per person for the remainder of the year. Contact our membership secretary Sue for further details.

Founded in 1982, u3a (University of the Third Age) is a UK-wide movement of retired or semi-retired people who join locally-run interest groups that provide a wide range of opportunities to come together to learn for fun. Members explore new ideas, skills and activities together.

There are 1,057 u3as with over 380,000 members; and is open to everyone who’s no longer in full-time work.

u3a has members who draw upon their knowledge and experience to teach and learn from each other but there are no qualifications to pass – it is just for pleasure. Learning is its own reward.
